About Us
a1 motorcycles has been in business for over twenty years. It was founded in 1986 by John and Helen Buskes and Jeff and Janet Thyne. In 1994 Jeff and Janet were bought out by Steve and Karen Brouggy who stayed with the business until 1997 at which point Steve and Karen left to concentrate on their Superbike school. In 1998 the scooter shop was opened in Ringwood (later to merge with a1 motorcycles in Ringwood) whilst in 1999 a1's Brighton store was established. The Brighton store was then chosen to be an authorised Suzuki dealer and has become a sales leader in the marque. Now with over 25 staff, two showrooms and two service centers, a1 is well placed to grow into the 21st century. With an emphasis on friendy service and staff who are committed motorcyclists, John Buskes and the entire a1 crew have a reputation for going that extra yard to help their customers. Whether it's the purchase of a motorcycle or scooter, finding the right helmet, jacket or boots, all staff are keen to assist. And, unlike some motorcycle dealers we aren't reluctant to give test rides either. We know that the only way you can truly decide on a motorcycle or scooter is by riding it, not by reading a brochure. So our motto is "who wants a ride?".
a1 motorcycles are authorised agents for Aprilia, Benelli, Husqvarna, Moto Guzzi, Sachs, Bug and Deus motorcycles and scooters. Our Brighton showroom is also an authorised Suzuki dealer, makers of the number one selling road bikes in Australia. Apart from Suzuki and exotic Italian machinery we also stock a large range of quality preowned motorcycles and scooters to suit those on limited budgets, looking for a bargain or seeking something unusual - we are always on the lookout for new stock and are keen to give you a fair price for your unwanted motorcycle or scooter too.
Outside the dealership John Buskes is directly involved in the industry as chairman of the Motorcycle Industry Division of the Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce (VACC) where he is active in promoting motorcycling at an industry and government level. He is also in his second term as a member of the executive board of the VACC.
With the acceptance of scooters, rising fuel prices, traffic congestion and limited parking, motorcycles and scooters have a big future and we plan to be there for you!
